The oldest wing was once the boarding house created by the Schmieder family, pioneers of summer tourism in the upper Val Pusteria, with guests arriving from Austria and Germany on the daring 19th-century Vienna - San Candido - Merano railway. An early 20th-century 'Teestube” still survives along with many original 19th-century furnishings made personally by carpenter-hotelier Franz Ortner, the founder of the Parkhotel Sole Paradiso, whose family bought the hotel in 1986.
