The most important events of Italy's history unfolded within the walls of the Rome Grand Hotel. The Prussian Prince von Bülow came here in 1914 and attempted to win Italy over as an ally. Badoglio picked the Grand Hotel as his headquarters. Later the "National Liberation Committee" took over and forced Mussolini to resign. Cesare Ritz, "father" of the London Savoy, got it started and it is still the diplomat's choice.
