Torquato Tasso nacque in questo palazzo che, a metà Ottocento, si trasformò in dépendance delle grandi regge d'Europa. Vi scesero poeti come Lord Byron, Scott, Shelley e Leopardi. James Fenimore trovò qui ispirazione per l'opera "Water Witch"; Harriet Beecker Stowe per la sua "Agnese di Sorrento". E la famosa canzone "Turna a Surriento" venne composta sulla sua terrazza.
 
 The great poet Torquato Tasso was born in the building that in the middle of the 19th century became a sort of annex of Europe's Royal Palaces. A list of VIPs who stayed at the Imperial Hotel: Lord Byron, Sir Water Scott, Giacomo Leopardi, Shelley, James Fenimore (who was inspired here with the opera "Water Witch") and Harriet Beecker Stowe who wrote "Agnese di Sorrento". The famous song: "Turna a Surriento" was composed on its terrace.
